State Family Engagement Center Senior Program Associate
ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
The Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, Inc. (MAEC) was founded in 1991 as an education non-profit dedicated to increasing access to equitable educational opportunities so all students can learn and achieve at high levels. Its mission is to promote excellence and equity in education to achieve social justice. MAEC provides technical assistance and professional training for state department personnel, public school administrators, teachers, and families on a wide range of issues related to equity, including those centered on race, ethnicity, national origin, language, religion, and gender.
As part of its growing portfolio of projects, MAEC operates the Center for Education Equity, which is a technical assistance center funded by the Department of Education, serving the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, and is pleased to announce the formation of a new state family engagement center, funded by the Department of Education, titled the Collaborative Action for Family Engagement Center (CAFE).
CAFE will serve as the regional state family engagement center for Maryland and Pennsylvania. CAFE builds upon MAEC’s 26-year track record developing and implementing successful applications of evidence-based strategies and capacity building to deliver high-impact, culturally responsive family engagement. CAFE is a birth-grade 12, multi-tiered, comprehensive program that includes: a) technical assistance and training to SEAs, LEAs, and schools in collaboration with community organizations to provide evidence-based, effective practices in culturally responsive family engagement, and 2) direct services for parents, increasing their knowledge and efficacy to help their children improve school readiness and academic achievement.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
MAEC is looking to hire two dynamic professionals who will support the management and development of the newly formed Collaborative Action for Family Engagement Center (CAFE). The CAFE Senior Program Associates will monitor and coordinate the delivery of high quality FSCE programming and technical assistance between four partner organizations to underserved communities across Maryland and Pennsylvania.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates all project activities in Pennsylvania and Maryland
- Conceptualizes, designs, and delivers technical assistance and training to advance family, school and community engagement
- Conceptualizes, designs, and delivers technical assistance and training to advance education equity, specifically on issues related to race, gender, national origin (ELs), socioeconomic diversity, and/or religion
- Works collaboratively with MAEC leadership and staff to ensure high quality services, products, and trainings
- Models and participates in a highly supportive and collaborative team environment
- Builds and maintains strategic partnerships, with other equity and education focused organizations, to expand organizational opportunities available to clients
- Participates in development efforts including, but not limited to, writing public and private grant applications
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the theories and strategies of high impact, culturally responsive family engagement, parent leadership development, and community organizing, and up-to-date knowledge of the most recent developments in these fields
- Knowledge of education reform history and current education policy, particularly as they relate to equity-focused reform and the role of families, youth, and community members in school and district reform
- Extensive experience and comfort working with racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse communities and multiple stakeholders, including school and district personnel, policymakers, community leaders, and families
- Knowledge of current K-12 education issues, especially as related to civil rights, equity, access, and opportunity
- Experience in group facilitation and/or training
- Demonstrated commitment to MAEC’s guiding principles
- Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with diverse audiences and partners
- Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation plans in fast-moving, changeable environments
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google docs, and interest in and ability to learn new platforms
- Flexible schedule, including willingness to travel, and ability to work evening, and weekend hours, as needed
REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate degree in education, related field, or equivalent experience
- 7-8 years of experience in the field of education, especially with a focus on family and community engagement, parent leadership, and/or school/district transformation
- 2 years of experience working with networks or coalitions
