The four regional Equity Assistance Centers provide technical assistance to help public schools address equity in education related to race, sex, national origin, and religion, and issues occasioned by desegregation. The events in Charlottesville, Virginia this past weekend, as well as the vandalizing of the New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston, Massachusetts, can be tied to an intolerance of racial, ethnic, and religious diversity that has no place in our society. We are deeply saddened, and very concerned by these events.
We take this moment to bring to your attention that we are available to help when issues such as these cause emotions to be raw and tensions to be high. The Equity Assistance Centers stand ready to assist public schools in creating an open school environment that is safe for all students. So, if you witness or hear of acts of hatred and discrimination in your schools, and would like help in addressing these issues related to race, color, religion, sex or national origin, please contact your regional Equity Assistance Center for free, immediate support, or assistance, and check out resources such as the following for more information about what you can do to help students:
