MAEC Celebrates Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court
April 8, 2022
MAEC celebrates the Senate’s confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court on Thursday, April 7, 2022. As the first Black woman to serve on the nation’s highest court, her confirmation marks a vital milestone in moving closer to equity, representation, and social justice.
“It is a crucial and historic moment in our nation’s history where the first African American woman will serve in our nation’s highest court. As an African American woman and mother raising an African American daughter, it is important to witness Judge Jackson’s success. We celebrate Judge Jackson and the more than qualified, pioneering women who came before her and all who will come after.” – Karmen Rouland, Vice President, MAEC.
Justice Jackson’s confirmation gives hope to all students and adds to the sweeping strides in racial justice over the last decade. For the first time in 232 years, the Supreme Court will not have a white male majority. And it follows the election of our nation’s first Black president and first woman of color as vice president.
We celebrate Justice Jackson’s courage and strength as it rekindles MAEC’s commitment to educational equity and social justice.
