Empowering Every Family: Tip sheets on multilingual learners, special education, and family engagement

MAEC

In this worksheet series parents and caregivers will get information on:

  • Policy and laws related to parent and caregiver engagement
  • Terminology, actions, and questions to ask schools
  • Multilingual learner and special education services
  • Resources for identification, translation, and interpretation

A resource for Maine parents and caregivers to advocate for their child’s personal and academic success.

  • MAEC’s Consortium for Engaging Families Across Maine (CEFAM) developed thirteen worksheets covering ways parents and caregivers can engage with teachers and school staff. This resource can help ensure clear understanding and communication between families and administrators and inform parents and caregivers to take the best actions to support their child’s success. Topics include navigating services for multilingual learners with disabilities, individualized education programs (IEPs), advocacy for undocumented students, and more.
  • We encourage parents and caregivers to download this resource, and for education personnel to distribute it to your school and school administrative unit.
  • If you are a professional who works in family engagement and are interested in adopting this resource for your state, contact us to learn how we can support you through our technical assistance by emailing info@maec.org.
