In 2023, the Center for Education Equity (CEE) at MAEC, Region I Equity Assistance Center, partnered with Falmouth Public Schools (FPS) to support a district-wide effort to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). With CEE’s collaboration, FPS sought to address system-wide disparities and foster equitable school environments.
Building on FPS’s ongoing DEIB efforts, which included professional development in culturally responsive teaching and restorative practices, CEE led a comprehensive equity needs assessment using the MAEC Equity Audit Tool, focusing on:
- District policies and practices
- School climate and community engagement
- Curriculum development and disciplinary procedures
Climate surveys were offered in multiple languages to students, families, and staff to ensure inclusivity and amplify the voices of historically underrepresented groups in the community.
With CEE’s continued support, FPS is developing a district-wide Equity Action Plan and school-level plans based on the audit’s findings. Through coaching and technical assistance, CEE is helping FPS implement these strategies, ensuring the district builds the internal capacity for lasting, equity-centered improvements across all schools.
