MAEC Awarded Grant to Codify Its Equity-based Continuous Improvement Model
The Model Design and Initiation Grants are funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
BETHESDA, MD — January 21, 2020– MAEC is honored to be one of the first recipients of a Model Design and Initiation (MDI) grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The MDI grants are awarded to organizations to improve their capacity to support networks of secondary schools to use data for continuous improvement, strengthen secondary school leadership teams, and provide high quality technical assistance to secondary schools.
Through this investment, MAEC will be better positioned to help secondary schools increase the number of Black, Latinx, and low-income students’ graduation rates, their enrollment in postsecondary institutions, and their ability to stay on track in their first year to earn a credential with labor-market value.

The funds will enable MAEC to refine its equity-based continuous improvement model by working with experts and by testing the model in one or two Delaware schools.
MAEC’s aim is to turn equity from a value into an integrated and sustainable practice. Through educator training and services, MAEC addresses structural, cultural and operational policies and procedures that impede the success of racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse students in the United States.
