There is no “right” way to be a strong leader: every leader brings their own unique style, strengths, and approach. However, in our work across the country, we have consistently found that the most effective education leaders share these traits:

- Ability to have courageous conversations to move work forward
- Self-awareness and reflection for continual growth
- Trust-building skills to strengthen relationships
- Balance of focus between immediate goals and long-term vision
- Confidence using data to make informed decisions
- Flexibility to adapt to feedback and evolving community needs
