Empowering Multilingual Families

Empowering Multilingual Families

MAEC

In this worksheet series parents and caregivers will get information on:

  • Child and parent and caregiver legal rights
  • Terminology, actions, and questions to ask schools
  • Multilingual learner and disability support services
  • Resources for identification, translation, and interpretation

A resource for Maine parents and caregivers to advocate for their child’s personal and academic success.

  • MAEC’s Consortium for Engaging Families Across Maine (CEFAM) developed thirteen worksheets covering ways parents and caregivers can advocate for their child across various multilingual learner topics. This resource can help ensure clear understanding and communication between families and administrators and inform parents and caregivers to take the best actions to support their child’s success. Topics include navigating the identification process, services for multilingual learners with disabilities, advocacy for undocumented students, ESOL, and more.
  • We encourage parents and caregivers to download this resource, and for education personnel to distribute it to your school and district. Will soon be available in Portuguese, Arab, French, Spanish, and Somali.
  • If you are a professional who works in family engagement and are interested in adopting this resource for your state, contact us to learn how we can support through our technical assistance by emailing info@maec.org.
