50 Years Later – Honoring the Legacy of Dr. King

MLK, Jr.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. – Martin Luther King, Jr

Wednesday, April 4, 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. During his lifetime, Dr. King fought for social justice and racial and economic equality. Since our founding, MAEC has been deeply committed to the same issues, working specifically to close the opportunity gaps that persist in today’s education system.

Dr. King’s legacy provides a beacon of light and inspires us to continue the quest for equity and excellence. Let us not be tired, or grow weary when fighting for what is just. There is still work to do to ensure that all children and their families are given an opportunity to reach their fullest potential, regardless of race, class, gender, religion, or national origin. We encourage you to take part in the events that are occurring across the United States this week to honor the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
