CEFAM visits educators at Maine DOE Multilingual Learner Advisory Council meeting

July 23, 2025

Last month, members of MAEC’s Consortium for Engaging Families Across Maine (CEFAM) were invited by the Maine DOE’s Office of Teaching and Learning to join the Multilingual Learner Advisory Council meeting in Augusta, ME. As Maine’s statewide family engagement center, the CEFAM team partners with educators and organizations across the state to equip families with the tools and resources they need to support students in school.

The Advisory Council meeting brought together multilingual learner educators from across Maine to explore strategies for promoting family engagement and to share feedback on CEFAM’s latest projects and publications.

A key part of the meeting included an in-depth discussion of CEFAM’s Empowering Multilingual Families worksheet series. These worksheets provide guidance and resources for parents and caregivers to navigate multilingual learning in schools, covering topics like student identification, working with students with disabilities, and understanding family rights. Thanks to invaluable feedback from the Advisory Council, our CEFAM team will refine the series to align more closely with Maine’s policies and practices, ensuring families are equipped to advocate for their children with confidence.

The CEFAM team is excited to return to Maine in early August for the upcoming Educator Summit, hosted by the Maine Department of Education.
