As 2025 begins, CAFE looks back on a year of building strong family connections in schools and communities. Rita Perez, Senior Education Equity Specialist and Project Director for CAFE, shares highlights from 2024 and how we’re ready to take family engagement even further in 2025.
What sums up CAFE in 2024?
We fostered meaningful relationships and family engagement by working at all levels of a school community.
What were some highlights?
Building comprehensive family engagement by working across many functions with South Fayette Township School District and Esperanza Cyber Charter School. We were able to develop inclusive programs, enhance two-way communication, and create leadership opportunities for families. We also expanded our reach with the Corner CAFE podcast and webinars. With initiatives like the Family Leadership Collaborative and our work with state education departments, we’re connecting communities so families can be active partners in student success.
How does this set CAFE up for 2025?
With the scope of our family engagement work with districts last year, we are excited about working to hone in the “connecting the dots” part of family engagement work, making strong connections across functions, community partners, and communities. Each area can do well independently, but family engagement is about developing strong relationships across these areas. We can’t wait to build on this in 2025!
