About CAFE

The Collaborative Action for Family Engagement (CAFE) Center is a project of MAEC, Inc. We engage in high impact, culturally responsive family engagement. By building partnerships among schools, parents, and community organizations, we improve the development and academic achievement of all students.

Where We Are

CAFE works within the states of Maryland and Pennsylvania to build a statewide infrastructure for sustained capacity. Together, these states have the opportunity to learn from one another and establish a network of shared leadership and peer support.

This project is funded by the US Department of Education under Title IV, part E of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). CAFE is one of twelve statewide family engagement centers.

OUR VISION

Families, educators, and community members work together as partners, hold themselves mutually accountable, and have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed at improving achievement for all students.


CAFE’S EQUITY APPROACH

Strategies that work to increase outreach to diverse communities to establish a common ground.

  • Voices from within each community as a source of expertise.
  • Identifying and removing cultural biases that serve as obstacles to academic achievement.
  • Reviewing and redefining traditional FSCE to capture and understand parental engagement in communities of color.
