Family Leader Application for the Interstate Family Engagement Leadership Collaborative

We are thrilled to share an exciting opportunity for Maryland and Pennsylvania in support of family engagement in our schools and communities. In October 2023, the United States Department of Education selected the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium (MAEC) for the honor of serving as Maryland and Pennsylvania’s Statewide Family Engagement Center, known as the Collaborative Action for Family Engagement (CAFE). CAFE is currently recruiting family leaders for our Interstate Family Engagement Leadership Collaborative (IFELC). This initiative at CAFE ensures that family leaders will help shape the direction of the advisory committee. As a critical partner in the field, we invite you to serve in a leadership capacity on CAFE’s Advisory Board to share your expertise as we work to implement high-impact school, family, and community engagement strategies in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Beginning in April 2024, CAFE will launch the next phase of our Leadership Collaborative by training 6 family members each from MD and PA to serve as Family Leaders on the advisory committee. Family leaders will serve for a one-year term. Applicants must reside in either Maryland or Pennsylvania to serve as a family leader.

Family Leaders will commit to an estimated 2 hours a month through the following activities:

• Attend the scheduled orientation for Family Leaders on April 9 from 9:30 am–12:30 pm (virtually).
• Participate in 4 monthly Interstate Family Engagement Leadership Collaborative Meetings, held between larger Committee meetings. During these sessions, collaborate with CAFE staff and partner organizations to plan agendas for upcoming state advisory meetings.

• Facilitate 3 state advisory meetings with support from CAFE.
• Lead small group discussions during each state advisory meeting and share insights and learning opportunities with the IFELC team.
• 2024 CAFE Advisory Meeting Dates: March 5th, June 11th, September 10th, December 3rd

 

Family Advisory Council Purpose:
The purpose of the Interstate Family Engagement Leadership Collaborative (IFELC) is to provide strategic advice and support for the activities of the larger Statewide Family Engagement Center Advisory Committee and to build cross-collaboration between Pennsylvania and Maryland. IFELC is responsible for helping CAFE plan and facilitate the Statewide Family Engagement Center Advisory Committee in developing resources for families and educational professionals.

Compensation:

• Gift card stipends for family representatives will be offered. This will honor your time commitment. Attendance at the planning meetings and the facilitation of the state advisory committee meetings is required to receive gift cards.
• Mileage reimbursement will be offered for any in-person meetings or training.
