Research and Evaluation Assistant

MAEC was founded in 1991, as an education non-profit dedicated to increasing access to equitable educational opportunities so all students can learn and achieve at high levels. Its mission is to promote excellence and equity in education to achieve social justice.

MAEC collaborates with the U.S. Department of Education, the Offices for Civil Rights, the Department of Justice, state departments of education, districts, and schools to ensure that students are treated equitably and are given access to a rigorous curriculum regardless of race, gender, national origin (English Learners), sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or religious beliefs. MAEC provides technical assistance and professional learning for state department personnel, administrators, principals, teachers, and families on culturally responsive pedagogy, violence and harassment prevention, prejudice reduction, family engagement, culturally proficient teacher training, compliance with educational laws and regulations, and other issues related to school improvement.


MAEC is looking for a detail-oriented and dynamic individual who is comfortable prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. MAEC offers a collegial and stimulating work environment and meaningful projects to candidates. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Associate Director of Evaluation and Continuous Improvement. Moreover, the incumbent is required to work collaboratively with other staff members and exercise independent judgment related to assignments.



  • Supports Associate Director of Evaluation and Continuous Improvement in the process of developing and implementing MAEC’s evaluations and reporting
  • Manages and organizes information including evaluation data entry and creation of basic data summaries
  • Updates and maintains a project database as well as checks the accuracy of data records
  • Conducts literature reviews and synthesizes variety of primary and secondary research (e.g. collects news/articles and research on policy trends and education equity best practices)
  • Identifies promising practices by analyzing and leveraging data from current long-term projects
  • Researches potential grant opportunities and assists in the proposal and report development process
  • Assists with data collections including instrument development, helping coordinate logistics of data collections, and analysis of results.
  • Provides the Communications Coordinator with program data and information for purposes of developing marketing materials and increasing the visibility of the organization
  • Supports program staff in developing and formatting PowerPoint presentations and handouts
  • Provides administrative support to program staff (Coordinates events, provides support to equity specialists, etc.)

  • Outstanding organizational abilities, good judgment, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability multi-task and to work independently as well as with a team.



  • 2-4 years of experience with non-profit administration, or comparable office management experience
  • Have foundational knowledge of statistics and data analysis process (Familiarity with a statistical software such as STATA, R or SPSS is a plus)
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education and/or related field
  • Experience with federal and foundation grant writing and management
  • Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Examples: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Google docs, and interest in and ability to learn new platforms




Compensation will be commensurate with experience. MAEC offers a competitive benefits package including health, vision, dental insurance, and a 403(b) retirement program.
