Senior Data and Evaluation Specialist for Early Childhood

The Senior Data and Evaluation Specialist at MAEC works under the direction of the Director of Evaluation and Continuous Improvement to support the evaluation needs of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Division. The Senior Data and Evaluation Specialist works closely with the evaluation team and the Early Childhood Division to coordinate conceptual evaluation practices, manage evaluation projects, and data analysis and reporting.



Evaluation Management, Data Collection and Analysis

  • Lead data analysis of key problem areas on process evaluations, needs assessments, root cause analyses and other evaluation project related activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the evaluation team and the ECE Division, co-designing evaluation processes with stakeholders on both teams.
  • Co-create long- and short-term evaluation plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines.
  • Independently manage tasks on evaluation projects to ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Conceptualize data collection protocols and instrument development.
  • Design and lead data collection activities, including key informant interviews, focus groups, and surveys.
  • Independently perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis using a variety of research and methods and choosing appropriate tools (e.g., SPSS, R, Tableau, Excel, MAXQDA, Qualtrics, Quickbase).
  • Collaborate with others on writing program- funding proposals to guarantee uninterrupted delivery of services.
  • Exercise judgment and creativity in selecting and applying procedures correctly, and determine when to refer problems to the supervisor or the next level of support.
  • Maintain the integrity/security of the data and follow best practices around data management, governance and usage as defined by MAEC’s Data Policy.

Data Reporting

  • Lead the conceptualization, development and writing of reports, including (bi-)annual reports.
  • Manage the development of content for reports and presentations.
  • Independently author internal and external reports that summarize work progress and inform ongoing continuous improvement.
  • Maintain existing data organizational system and create detailed data documentation.
  • Synthesize data analysis and written summaries of results in ways that our ECE teams and stakeholders can grasp easily and quickly.
  • Develop and present findings to diverse stakeholders including clients, potential funders, parents and families and other ECE stakeholders using best practices.

Data Management for Continuous Improvement:

  • Collect, understand, and use data to recommend and make process/systems improvements for daily operating procedures and improve the efficiency and outcomes for clients and projects.
  • Improve existing data and reporting systems (e.g., tracking sheets) and develop other data systems/tools as needed to support the understanding of users’ engagement with the data system.
  • Develop reports, data systems/tools, and protocols to disseminate to early childhood leaders (e.g., Excel workbooks and other tools to help with data use, promoting data literacy, etc.).
  • Coordinate data systems with other staff across ECE projects (and external partners) as needed to promote consistency and efficiency (e.g., using consistent identifiers).



  • At least 5 years of experience working with program evaluation, data analysis and research with at least one year of experience working in education.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently.
  • Knowledge of current education issues, especially as related to civil rights, equity, access, and opportunity and the early childhood education space.
  • Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, SPSS, R, MAXQDA, Qualtrics, Tableau, Quickbase, and/or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation plans in fast-moving, changeable environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.



  • B.S or B.A. from an accredited institution and 10 years of experience; or graduate degree and 5 years of experience.
  • At least 5 years working on data and evaluation projects, with at least one year of experience working in the Early Childhood Education space.
  • Equity, compliance, civil rights, or elementary/secondary education-related experience is a plus.
  • Flexible schedule, including willingness to travel.
