ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

 MAEC was founded in 1991, as an education non-profit dedicated to increasing access to equitable educational opportunities so all students can learn and achieve at high levels. Its mission is to promote excellence and equity in education to achieve social justice.

MAEC collaborates with the U.S. Department of Education, the Offices for Civil Rights, the Department of Justice, state departments of education, districts, and schools to ensure that students are treated equitably and are given access to a rigorous curriculum regardless of race, gender, national origin (English Learners), sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or religious beliefs. MAEC provides technical assistance and professional learning for state department personnel, administrators, principals, teachers, and families on culturally responsive pedagogy, violence and harassment prevention, prejudice reduction, family engagement, culturally proficient teacher training, compliance with educational laws and regulations, and other issues related to school improvement.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

MAEC is looking for a dynamic individual to serve as the Associate Director of Operations for our Center for Education Equity (CEE). The main purpose of this position is to provide day to day supervision over CEE’s programmatic activities. In addition, this position requires the development and delivery of customized professional development and technical assistance to families, community-based organizations, schools, school districts, and state departments of education on civil rights and educational equity issues to address National Origin/English Learners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide day to day supervision of all programmatic activities conducted by CEE.
  • Assist Executive Director in developing operational strategies and procedures to ensure quality technical assistance and training.
  • Coordinate activities with other divisions to ensure appropriate delivery of services and overall evaluation and assessment of projects.
  • Supervise technical assistance staff in program implementation.
  • Develop and deliver new trainings and products related to educational equity, school improvement, and/or teaching and learning as they address National Origin/English Learners and that are relevant to State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs).
  • Support MAEC communication strategies, including writing newsletters, social media, conferences, and participating in webinars.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with other equity and education focused organizations, to expand organizational opportunities available to clients.
  • Participate in development efforts including, but not limited to, writing public and private grant applications.
  • Model and participate in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to manage programs and supervise staff.
  • Experience in working with equity related programs.
  • Knowledge of current K-12 education issues, especially as related to National Origin/English Learners civil rights, equity, access, and opportunity.
  • Experience in group facilitation and/or training.
  • Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and interest in and ability to learn new platforms.
  • Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with diverse audiences and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation plans in fast-moving, changeable environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to MAEC’s guiding principles.
  • Flexible schedule, including willingness to travel, and ability to work evening, and weekend hours, as needed.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in an education or comparable field.
  • Five or more years in program management.
  • Five or more years of equity, compliance, civil rights, or elementary/secondary education related experience, including at least three years designing and implementing high-impact technical assistance and professional development at a district or school level in the area of National Origin/English Learners.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience. MAEC offers a competitive benefits package including health, vision, dental insurance, and a 401K retirement program.
